Accessibility

Two things people need from a page like this: can I get into the car, and can I use the website. Both are answered here, honestly, including where the answer is "ask us first".

Getting into the car

What we can do, and what to tell us first

The single most useful thing you can do is tell us before the day. Almost everything is possible with notice, and very little can be arranged at the kerb. There is no charge for any of it.

Help to and from the door
The chauffeur comes to the door rather than waiting at the kerb, carries the bags, and helps you in and out of the car. Ask for it in the booking notes, or simply tell the chauffeur.
A folding wheelchair or walker
Travels in the boot on any vehicle with room for it. Tell us and we will send something with the space rather than a car that will not take it.
A powered chair or a wheelchair-accessible vehicle
A powered chair does not fold and needs a ramp-equipped vehicle. Tell us when you enquire and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange and by when.
Assistance animals
Always welcome, in every vehicle, at no charge and with no notice needed. Telling us anyway means the chauffeur can bring a blanket.
A vehicle that is easier to get into
An SUV sits higher and often suits a stiff hip better than a low sedan; a minivan has a wide sliding door. Tell us what is easier and we will match the car to it.
Extra time, without a meter running
If getting in and out takes longer, that is not waiting time and it is not charged. Tell us so the schedule allows for it.

If you tell us what you need and we cannot do it, we will say so plainly rather than take the booking and hope. That is worth more to you than a promise.

Booking without using the form

The website is not the only way in, and never has to be.

By phone

Any hour, any day. A person takes the whole booking, including everything the form would have asked.

By email

Tell us the journey in your own words. We will send back a written quote you can read at your own pace.

With help

Somebody else can book on your behalf. Give us a number the chauffeur can use on the day and it works exactly the same.

How this website is built

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. These are the specific things that were done for it.

  • Every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is always visible.
  • Buttons, links and form controls are at least 44 pixels tall, so they can be hit without precision.
  • Text contrast is checked in both the light and the dark appearance, and both are supported properly rather than one being an afterthought.
  • Images that carry meaning have alternative text; images that are decoration are hidden from screen readers rather than described pointlessly.
  • Form fields have real labels attached to them, and an error says which field it is about and what to do.
  • Headings run in order, so a screen reader can skim the page the way a sighted reader does.
  • Where your system asks for reduced motion, the animations on this site stop.
  • The site works at 200% zoom and reflows on a narrow screen without a horizontal scrollbar.

Where we know it falls short

A statement that claims perfection is a statement nobody believes. These are the parts we are least sure of.

  • The address fields use Google Maps for suggestions, and the suggestion list is Google's rather than ours. If it is awkward with a screen reader, type the address in full and submit it. The form accepts that.
  • The payment step is rendered by Stripe or PayPal inside our page, and its accessibility is theirs.
  • Maps are visual by nature. Everything a map shows on this site is also written out in text nearby.
  • We have tested with keyboard navigation and with screen readers, but not with every combination of browser and assistive technology in use.

Telling us about a problem

This is the part of the page that matters most. A barrier we do not hear about is a barrier we cannot remove.

  • Email or call us and describe what happened. What you were trying to do is more useful than technical detail.
  • Tell us what you were using: the browser, and the screen reader or other assistive technology, if you know.
  • We aim to reply within two business days and to tell you what we are going to do about it.
  • If something on the site is stopping you from booking, say so and we will simply take the booking over the phone while it is fixed.

Our commitment

  • Nobody is charged more, or made to wait longer, because of a disability.
  • An assistance animal is never refused and is never a surcharge.
  • A request for help getting in or out of the vehicle is treated as ordinary, because it is.
  • Accessibility is checked when the site changes, not only when somebody complains.

Tell us what you need

Whether it is about a journey or about this website, tell us and we will sort it out. Nothing here is a special request.
